After a string of releases on Melting Pot Music, Plane Jane and Yoruba Soul - vocalist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Miles Bonny returns to the Bastard Jazz family for a special one off 7" paying homage to the Purple One, covering Prince's "Dear Mr. Man", a track that couldn't be more timely considering the state of the world, Prince's untimely death one year ago to the date.
"Miister Man" goes for the jugular with a low slung drum break, a deep synth bassline, Miles signature understated funky vocal growls and horn injections. The instrumental is included on the flip.
I heard this album back 2016 , just was not in the mood for it, was still into more faster 4/4 beat music . Over last four year I have progressed into this love of soul , funk and especially jazz. This record is on fire, I love it so much . I love changes of the time signatures, yeah it has though Herbie feel, but also the urban feel, back in forest hill I go! jazz, funk, broken beat all in one it's a must ! Gary Hawkins
